Donation and Can-Creations to Help Feed Fredericksburg

There are many ways to help local people who struggle to feed their families. Spotsylvania Towne Centre is doing what it can to contribute to that effort in a couple different ways. Recently, mall ownership took steps to close a chain restaurant that had failed to timely pay its rental obligations, leaving behind a great deal of unused, packaged food products. Rather than let it go to waste, Spotsylvania Towne Centre yesterday donated 1,612 pounds of food to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. This donation equates to approximately 1,300 meals – enough to feed a family of four, three meals per day for over three months.

The donation happens as another effort to help the food bank is getting started at Towne Centre. The 14th Annual Canstruction® is underway. Canstruction® is an international charity competition where teams compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from cans of food. Last year, this event generated enough support to provide 24,300 meals for neighbors facing hunger across the Central Rappahannock River Region. Volunteers from local organizations and companies will work on their creations February 26-28 at several locations throughout the mall concourses. Visitors will be able to vote on their favorites March 1 – 8, with the winners being announced on March 9. Food from the Canstruction® entries will later be sent to the food bank.

Spotsylvania Towne Centre has been serving the people of northern Virginia since 1980. It is located at the junction of Interstate 95 and Route 3, near Fredericksburg. The 1.7 million square foot complex offers more than 120 department stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a hotel, entertainment venues and a new luxury residential community, Attain at Towne Centre. Spotsylvania Towne Centre is owned and managed as part of the Cafaro family of companies, based in Niles, Ohio. One of the nation’s largest privately held shopping center developers, the Cafaro organization has developed and managed more than 50 million square feet of commercial real estate in 14 states. For more information, visit online at www.cafarocompany.com.
